ROLE: COUNSELLOR ? GAMBLING SPECIALIST

Ais?ir? is an addiction treatment service for adults, young people
and their families. Our services include a residential detoxification
programme, residential treatment, continuum of care and support for
families.

In association with the Gambling Awareness Trust, we are now enhancing
and improving our service for problem gamblers. We wish to recruit a
counsellor with a special interest and background in gambling. This is
a new role within Ais?ir? and they will play a key role in informing
best practice for working with gambling addiction.

ROLE: Counsellor/ Gambling ?

LOCATION: Based in Cahir, the candidate will work throughout the
organisation. Our Treatment Centres are located in Cahir, Wexford,
Waterford & Kilkenny.

JOB TYPE: Full-time (1 year)

SALARY: Point 7 HSE scale ?**Apply on the website**,**Apply on the

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advocacy & Education are key elements of this role along with
assessing current practice and making suggestions for best practice.

_Screening for gambling addiction is virtually non-existent and makes
it difficult to interdict those at risk of developing significant
problems with harmful gambling.?_ (Gambling Trends, Harms &
Responses: Ireland in an International Context.) The candidate will
inform assessment screenings and procedures.

Integrate into the multidisciplinary teams and act as a resource to
the team by offering specialist insight and the perspective of
behaviour addictions.

Provide shadowing opportunities for staff members.

Considering prevention and early interventions, liaise with the staff
team to devise workshops and resources and public awareness campaigns.

Input into the Family Programme and the Schools Outreach Programme
offering specialist insight.?

Provide specialist guidance and support in specific areas of the
organisations for example, working with young people, continuum of
care and in our gender specific centres.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:

THE CANDIDATE MUST:

* Have the clinical experience to work confidently with staff and
clients.
* A working knowledge of the **Apply on the website** Step Minnesota
Model of addiction treatment.

SKILLS & QUALITIES:

THE CANDIDATE MUST:

* Be committed to the **Apply on the website** step model of
addiction recovery and share the values and ethos of Ais?ir?.
* Be informed of best practice and research in the field of
gambling.
* Be an advocate for problem gamblers and committed to enhancing
services and improving practices.
* Have the ability to relate to and empathise with families and
treat the client group with compassion, dignity and respect at all
times.
* Have excellent IT skills and be comfortable in an IT rich
environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Level 8 BA Honours in Addiction Counselling, Psychotherapy or
a related field. A qualification specific to gambling would be an
advantage if supported by experience.
